The Most Important Woman in Your Life

My Dear Friends,

How can you safely show love and appreciation for the most important woman in your life?

It's nearly Mother's Day, and each year, my two sisters and I plan a huge breakfast and family day with our dear Mother. All the grandchildren get together, prepare songs, artwork and we just celebrate a woman who is a mom, and a grandmother EXTRAORDINAIRE! And we were so optimistic that we would be able to celebrate in style again this year...that was until this pandemic. With the Covid-19 virus keeping everyone at home, this Mother's Day will be unlike any other, and we are all very saddened about it.

This year, spending the day with my mom is out of the question. I've been heading to work, and although we take the recommended precautions, we just can't visit my mom this year. It's for her own protection, and it's truly heartbreaking. My mom misses her grandchildren and children dearly and we miss her equally as much!  Phone calls and zoom calls are great, but just not nearly enough!

Is Social Distancing the same as being Emotionally Distant?

So, we've been brainstorming ways to make a happy Mother's Day, that may end up being "socially distant", but at the same time "lovingly close." For our photo shoot, you'll notice that my mom and I "kept our distance", and I want to be honest - IT WAS REALLY A CHALLENGE!!

So to make this Mother's Day special I thought of some of the ideas. I would be so grateful if you, my wonderful community, could give me your feedback. And then, when May 10th rolls around, whatever we decide, I'll make sure to take pics and videos for you. Here are some of the ideas we thought about...

Pampering

My mom is always beautiful. Dressed well, takes care of herself and looks "put together". So I always think about how a day of pampering would be so awesome! It could be a massage (which we all could use). Maybe a workshop about makeup application? Maybe a facial?  The pampering won't be happening for quite a while, but I know she'd love a bit of extra TLC.

A Picture Tells a Thousand Words

We had this great idea, assemble videos and pictures of my sisters and I when we were little and "recreate" them as adults - it would be so cute and then make a video slideshow for her. Or, even take those pictures and make a new photo album for her.

Ding, Dong, Ditch!

My mom is a fabulous cook, but as it's Mother's Day, we wanted to cook for her, so we thought about making a five course meal and then dropping it off at her house. She'll still have to serve it, but at least we cooked it!! And then, we'll head to our respective homes and (using the magic of technology) all "zoom" in together and eat!

Flowers are Still Forever

My mom's favorite flowers are lilies, and it's definitely lily season here in Israel. Maybe a gorgeous bouquet of flowers?  Lilies are actually a great cut flower to purchase, I even like them better than roses. I always look for blooms that have not yet opened so that they will stay beautiful for a longer amount of time.

Personalized Jewelry

Of course, as I have special connections with a fabulous jewelry company, I could give her a beautifully engraved necklace with the names of her grandchildren!

This will definitely be a Mother's Day unlike any other. I know that I am fortunate and so blessed to have a wonderful Mother and I hope that I find the best and most honorable way to show her how much I care!

If you have any ideas that you would like to add, I'm open to hear from them! I want to show my mom that even if we can't "PHYSICALLY" be together......we will stay emotionally bonded!

Yours,

Danny
